About Travel
What makes a successful traveler?
You should have strong clinical skills and a desire to learn. Once you begin to travel, it helps to maintain a positive and outgoing attitude. You'll have to adapt to new surroundings, so being flexible is key. If you consider new challenges an adventure, you're off to a great start because travel can be an exciting exploration with each new day.
Can you find me a job in a particular city?
We have a variety selection of assignments, in a variety of settings and specialties. However, the needs of our client facilities change daily. Depending on your specialty, we may not have a position in your preferred city available, however, we'll do our best to get you where you want to go, or present you with other great opportunities.
Can I travel when I choose? Do I have to sign an annual contract?
The choice is always yours, and you'll never have to sign an annual contract. Decide when you want to travel and where you want to go, and when your assignment is completed, you'll have more choices awaiting you.

If you are open-minded and flexible about travel assignments, and are willing to plan ahead and make a commitment, we feel confident that you’ll be working continuously.
Can I bring my family and/or pets?
Yes, you can. Many people have traveled with family, friends or pets – it's a great opportunity to explore the country together. You'll incur slightly higher costs for private housing and maybe a pet deposit. See the Housing section for more details.
If I don't use HDS housing, will I receive a housing allowance?
Yes, you will receive a monthly housing subsidy if you arrange and pay for your own housing, outside of you current home town. The subsidy varies, depending upon the city you will be living in.
What are the state licensing requirements for a travel assignment?
Your Licensure Specialist will assist you on the specific requirements in each state for every assignment. Visit our state-licensing page for more information on occupational therapists, physical therapists and speech-language pathologists.
Can I speak with other travelers to get a better picture of travel healthcare?
Absolutely! This is one of the best ways to clarify if traveling is really for you. Who better than current travelers, to shed light on the entire travel healthcare experience? Simply ask your Recruiter to connect you with another traveler.

CFY Information
Is there a CFY Mentorship Program at HDS?
Because we are owned by a speech therapist, HDS offers you a strong mentorship program throughout your CFY experience. In addition to your ASHA CFY-SLP Mentor, you will also have assistance from 4 SLPs employed by our sister company HTS.
Can I be a Traveler during my CFY?
HDS works with CFs in both School Travel and Medical Travel settings.

Housing
I don't need company housing. Do you offer an allowance?
Yes. If you arrange and pay for your own housing, outside of your current home town, you will receive a monthly housing stipend or subsidy. The subsidy varies by position and assignment location.

Job Assignments
How long are travel assignments?
Most assignments are eight weeks or 13 weeks, but we always try to customize the length of an assignment to meet your needs.
Can I be assigned in my hometown?
Yes. Some of the facilites we staff hire local healthcare professionals. Your recruiter will know if you're eligible for local travel.
What types of assignments do you offer?
Let us help you find specific assigmants you desire, whether in a prestigious teaching hospital or a rehab facility, in major city or rural setting. We have available positions in almost all allied health programs and specialties.
All things considered, how long before I can start an assignment?
This depends how quickly you want to begin. Having your application completed speeds things up considerably. You could start your first assignment within one week, or four to six weeks. To learn more about assignments that are currently available, apply today!
Will a HDS professional help me choose an assignment?
Upon acceptance of your application and skills checklist, a professional personal recruiter is assigned to you. With years of experience in healthcare staffing and in matching qualified healthcare professionals to the right assignment, our recruiters assist you in every aspect of your search for the perfect assignment. Together, you choose the assignment that's right for you.
What are the chances I'll get the assignment I want?
Your chances are excellent. Even if we don't have your specific position in the location of your choice, we'll contact facilities in that area, present your credentials and search for assignments. We're not happy until you are.
I chose an assignment. Now what?
Your credentials, along with your selected start date, is sent to our client, the facility you've chosen. They, in turn, review your application and interview you via telephone. Your recruiter will prepare you for every step of the way.
When does my travel commitment begin?
Following the interview, you and the facility will determine if you're the right fit for the assignment. Your commitment begins only if and when you decide to accept the assignment.
Is there a minimum commitment duration?
No. You only commit to the length of the assignment you choose.
How should I prepare for my assignment?
Once you commit to an assignment, you will receive a confirmation package in the mail with all pertinent information about your assignment. Your recruiter will then work with you to prepare you for your assignment.
Will you inform me of the state licensing requirements for my assignment?
Your recruiter will inform you about the specific licensing requirements in the state of your assignment. For more information, visit our medical licensure page. We're here to assist you and make this part of the process easy.
How do I get to my assignment?
HDS recommends that, if traveling away from home, you should drive to your assignment. This gives you the freedom to explore a new area on your off days. If you accept an assignment in a major city, such as Chicago, where parking is scarce and public transportation is readily available, consider leaving your car at home. HDS reimburses the travel expenses to your assignment regardless of how you choose to get there.
Can I bring along a friend?
Absolutely. Share this journey by traveling with a colleague, spouse or close friend.

Is there a new graduate Mentorship Program at HDS?
HDS offers you a strong mentorship program throughout your first year of employment. With 7 Regional Managers, who are all licensed therapists, we are committed to you and your patients!
Do I need to pass my National Exam/National Boards prior to beginning an assignment for HDS?
Call us for details regarding states and settings in which you could still work while you continue to study for your national exam.

Pay and Benefits
Do you offer benefits and bonuses?
HDS’s allied health professionals are among the most highly compensated travelers in the industry. All travelers receive our benefits package and certain positions offer outstanding bonuses and incentives.
What is your payment process?
For your convenience, we provide compensation via direct deposit or overnight mail each week.
Do you offer referral bonuses?
Yes. Receive $500.00 for each referral you send to HDS, once your referral completes a 13-week assignment. More travelers come to us through referrals from friends and colleagues than from any other source.

No. A processed application means you can start searching exciting assignments. Commit to an assignment only when you're ready to travel.
Are there minimum qualifications?
To be placed by HDS, you must be a graduate of a U.S. accredited allied healthcare program, hold a valid professional practice license or certification and present proof of the right to work in the United States.
How much do you charge?
Our staffing service is free to you. Our services are paid for by our client healthcare facilities.
